One of his greatest accomplishments was to save hundreds of thousands of Jews and other persecuted groups from the Nazi's during WWII by hiding them in churches, monasteries and convents, even within the Vatican itself. Unfortunately, he is given little credit for this. Those actions to save the Jews should be sufficient in themselves to canonize him as a saint.

After World War 2 Pius became a target of the USSR to discredit his efforts to save the Jews and they had a specially designated disinformation group call Operation Seat 12. Unfortunately, many fell for these lies.

A:

Pius XII was pope of the Catholic Church from March 1939 to his death in October 1958. He opposed the German invasion of Poland, criticised the Nazi atrocities, and was instrumental in saving many from the gas chambers, but some point to his relative silence on the Holocaust, perhaps unfairly.

In the only instance that ex cathedra papal infallibility has been explicitly invoked, he announced the dogma of the Assumption of Mary in his 1950 Apostolic constitution Munificentissimus Deus.

Pius XII accepted the rhythm method as a moral form of family planning, although only in limited circumstances. In Humani Generis he acknowledged that evolution might accurately describe the biological origins of human life, while criticising those who "imprudently and indiscreetly hold that evolution... explains the origin of all things."

In modern times no head of the church was so indulgent in favouring members of his own family as Pius XII. Paul Hoffman (Anatomy of the Vatican) says that nepotism again became quasi-official in the Vatican under Pius XII, whose three nephews all played important roles during his pontificate and formed a tight little group that wielded great power in the Vatican. They all served on the boards of directors of many financial and business corporations that were controlled by the Vatican or by other church bodies. A nephew, Prince Marcantonio Pacelli, was for many years President of the Banco di Roma per la Svizzera, a subsidiary of the Vatican Bank.

Did Pope Saint Pius V live a simple and holy life visiting hospitals and prisons?

A:As Grand Inquisitor he repelled his predecessor, Pope Pius IV, by his severity and was criticised for censoriousness and obstinacy. As pope, Pius V continued his ascetic life. By his own standards, he improved the moral character of Rome, restricting the sale of indulgences, forcing prostitutes to live in a restricted quarter, and expelling Jews from the papal states but permitting some to remain in Rome and Ancona for commercial reasons, but only on humiliating conditions. The overriding ambition of Pope St. Pius V was the utter extinction of heresy. He commanded the extermination of the Huguenots and may have been implicated in the St Bartholomew's Day massacre, although this is unproven. In the midst of his many faults, he was also generous with the papal treasury, visiting hospitals and comforted the poor. Pius V has been described as "a strange union of singleness of purpose, magnanimity, austerity and profound religious feeling with sour bigotry, relentless hatred and bloody persecution."

Did the last six popes die of natural causes?

Yes, all officially died of natural causes. However, there are some questions unanswered about the death of Pope John Paul I as he died unexpectedly and no autopsy was performed. There are many who feel he was poisoned before he could release information about some scandals unfolding in the Vatican. Some also question the death of Pope Pius XI as a possible, but unlikely, murder.

What church is most similar to the Catholic Church?

Roman Catholic AnswerI believe that you will find the Society of St. Pius X very similar to Catholicism. They are fervent Catholics who believe that there hasn't been a valid Pope is Pope Pius XII. The Orthodox churches have very similar doctrines. But in the final analysis, Jesus Christ only founded one church, so by definition, every other church is very far removed from Catholicism because every one of them have denied some essential of the faith that God has preserved for us in His church including the Orthodox, and the Society of Saint Pius X.
