He sold war supplies to Britain, but Britain would have to pay cash for all goods it received; but after helping them with that he came up with a better plan: Roosevelt came up with the Lend-Lease Act. Which allowed the US the lend or lease goods to Britain.
In January 1941, Roosevelt proposed the lendlease program, which allowed Britain to "borrow" military equipment for the duration of the war.

FDR helped the British by selling weapons to them. He did this by cash-and-carry. This was a method that the U.S used so that we got cash for the weapons and we had no problem transporting it to the British because of all the German wolfpacks out in the Atlantic. This plan helped the economy by supporting it with more cash. This plan was the equivelent of Chinese Take-out.
The lend-lease Act was passed which gave him the right to send goods if they payed for it in cash he also sent them aid (ships, guns and others)
Lend-Lease allowed the US to send military equipment: tanks, airplanes, and ships; as well as small arms and ammunition.
