As far as is known, Monica was a housewife married to a bad-tempered pagan man named Patricius. Her son, Augustine, also lived a very sinful life. Monica prayed constantly for the conversion to Christianity of both. You might say that was her true occupation. Eventually, both wishes were granted. Patricius converted on his deathbed and Augustine converted and went on to become one of the greatest minds and theologians ever known.
