It lead to an agreement between the two countries of non aggression (Signed 28th August, 1939). Hitler hoped the pact would stop GB and France upholding their guarantee to Poland and avoid war with them. However in the end GB and Fr did up hold their guarantee to Poland and declared war on Germany (September 1, 1939). The pact was therefore useless for stopping war with GB and Fr but useful for Hitler, as it allowed him to pick his time to break the agreement and attack Russia (Operation Barbarossa 22 June 1941).
It was an anti-aggression pact. It other words they weren't supposed to attack each other, but it was just a delay until they reached enough supplies.
This was so as Hitler did not want to have a war on two fronts with the Allies on the west and Stalin on the east. Another benefit is that Hitler will be free on Stalin in his invasion of Poland
