Because he had a born obsession that seemed similar to Hitler's of having total power.
We have had many great Presidents and many bad ones as well. So it is difficult to tell who truly deserves the rank of “the greatest President” but I will try without much bias. First off, Harry S. Truman was a fantastic and definitely underrated President. Truman became President when Franklin D. Roosevelt suddenly died. He served two terms in the U.S Senate representing Missouri and after that a few months as VP. Truman helped improve the economy though it was nothing like Eisenhower, Kennedy, Trump or Reagan. It was still improvements to a war rocked nation. Speaking of war Truman helped win and end World War Two. Though Germany was mainly defeated by President Franklin Roosevelt he finished the job with the aid of the Soviet Union. Truman’s decision to drop the atomic bomb was the tough but right decision. Though Truman did declare war in Korea is was probably the right thing and the US would get uninvolved soon after. Truman also had an 88 approval rating the highest approval rating of any president! Finally, Truman was an admirable guy and smart man. He is heavily underrated with FDR and Eisenhower right before and after but still was a great President.
Wither or not he did a good job is an opinion. He dropped the atom bomb on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki which is why most people think he did a "bad job" even though he ended WWI by doing so.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt was the president of the U.S. throughout most of World War II. He died in office and was succeeded by his vice president, Harry S. Truman.
Taking on the Chinese after they invaded North Korean at Christmas during the Korean War.
It got a wee bit testy. MacArthur got insubordinate and the President had to fire him.
On April 12,1945,vice president Harry S.Truman was called to the White House. There,Truman learned that president Franklin D.Roosevelt had died. Now,Truman was the thirty-third U.S. president. It was a job he never wanted. In 1944,president Roosevelt decided to run for a fourth term.Henry Wallace was his vice president. But the Democrats felt Wallace would hurt Roosevelts chances at re-election.They chose senator Harry Truman to run for vice president.Truman did not want that job, either. He liked being a senator.Roosevelt and other Democrats pressured Truman. He finally said yes.Truman became vice president at a difficult time.World War 2 had begun. When he became president,Truman made some of the hardest decisions in world history.Truman was a farmer from Missouri. He worked hard to serve his state and country. He left the White House as one of the countrys most important presidents.
The sign was on President Truman's desk: THE BUCK STOPS HERE. Meaning quit passing the excuse or job onto other people.
