Zacchaeus was a wee little man and a wee little man was he!
He climbed up in a sycchamore tree, for the Lord He wanted to see!
And He said, "Zacchaeus! You come down!
"For I'm going to your house today!
"For I'm going to your house today!"
Zacchaeus. he was a small man so he climbed a tree in order to see Jesus. he was a tax collector. tax collectors were hated by their fellow Jews because they viewed them as working for the Romans whom they also hated for having to be under roman rule. you can read about zacchaeus at Luke 19:1-10.
We find the answer in chapter 19 of Luke's Gospel account: "Then Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. Now, there was a man named Zacchaeus who was a chief tax collector, and he was rich. He wanted to see who Jesus was, but could not because of the crowd, for he was not a tall man. So he ran ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree, for Jesus was going to pass that way. When Jesus came to the place, He looked up and saw him, and said to him, "Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for today I must stay at your house." So he made haste and came down, and received Jesus with joy. But when some saw this, they complained, saying, "He has gone to be a guest with a man who is a sinner."
In the Gospel of Luke, chapter 19 starting in verse 1 we read where Jesus is passing through Jericho. There was a man by the name of Zacchaeus, a tax collector and he wanted to see Jesus, as Jesus was well sought after, but Zacchaeus was a short man and so he climbed up a sycamore tree to get a better look. Read the story as it is good. Zacchaeus came to the Lord that day.
Zacchaeus the Tax Collector, as recorded in Luke 19: 1Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. 2 A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. 3 He wanted to see who Jesus was, but being a short man he could not, because of the crowd. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.5 When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today." 6 So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly.
You may be thinking of Zacchaeus? He was short and couldn't see Jesus well, so he climbed a Fig Mulberry Tree to get a better look. Jesus noticed him, said he was coming to his house next, and Zacchaeus 'left the tree' quickly to prepare for his visit (Luke 19:1-6). Zacchaeus was, however, just curious, and NOT a " follower of Jesus" when he was in the tree. He became one after they met (Luke 19:7-10)
Zacchaeus (Greek form of Zaccai) was a Jew and chief among the publicans(Properly called Portitores) and was despised by the Jews. He believed in Jesus and in the miracles that he performed and his desire to see him more clearly caused him to climb the Sycamore tree. The Lord knew what was in Zacchaeus heart so blessed him and his household. It was deeds like this that caused the Jewish leaders to despise Jesus. The story of Zacchaeus is related in Luke 19 v1-10.
Zacchaeus, a tax collector in the Bible, was going to see Jesus, who was passing through Jericho. He was eager to see Jesus but was too short to see over the crowd, so he climbed a sycamore tree to get a better view.
Zacchaeus was a tax collector. Everyone in that time hated the tax collectors so it seemed that someone claiming to be the Son of God should be doing much "holier" things. Jesus did this to show the people that anyone could come to know God and follow Him.
Zacchaeus was recognised as a sinner by his friends, (Luke 19.7), and repented - Luke 19.8) 8. "And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore [him] fourfold." And Jesus acknowledged his repentance in the next verse. So before he met Jesus, Zacchaeus was a thief and a skinflint according to his own words. But Jesus gave him salvation.
In the first century there was none so despised as the tax collector. They were reviled by most people and any respectable citizen would not associate with them. In fact, Jesus was rebuked by others when He stayed at the home of Zacchaeus. But after meeting Jesus and hearing the good news of salvation, Zacchaeus saw the error of his ways. Gaining forgivness, he repented, relieved himself of his worldly possessions and joined the Jesus movement.
He was a corrupt tax collector in Jericho (Luke 19:2-9). Jesus surprised him by calling him by name to come down from a tree and take Jesus home for dinner. His new found faith led him to restore with interest the money he had taken illegally.
because they were so excited that they could see. Jesus had healed them
