Who was a major excavator in Mesopotamia?

Charles Leonard Wooley

Who was the archaeologist who discovered Ur?

It was Sir Leonard Wooley. Sir Leonard Woolley was the Archaelogist who led the excavation around 70 years after its initial rediscovery in 1953 by British Vice Consul John George Taylor circa 1954. And over 300 years before this, In 1625, Pietro Della Valle made numerous recording of his findings at the site. J.G. Taylor was not technically an archaeologist, but he did lead the first excavation, so I suppose this is a double sided question that requires a double sided answer. I hope this has helped!

What archaeologist discovered evidence of a great flood?

The great flood that likely led to the Near Eastern flood myths such as the biblical flood of Noah's Ark and the great flood of the Epic of Gilgamesh, is believed to be the inundation of the low-lying, fertile plains that became the Black Sea when the Mediterranean Sea breached the Bosporus in approximately 5600 BCE.No one archaeologist can be given full credit for this discovery, because clues accumulated until various scientists began to take the Black Sea seriously as the origin of the biblical Flood story. They include Rick Fairbanks, Mellaart, David Ross, Egon Degen, Bob Karlin and a joint Russian-American expedition.

What are sumarians?

TheSumarians were a group of people native to the culture of ancient Ur situated in the southern part of present day Iraq. They are considered to be among the firstagriculturists using the water of the Euphrates to irrigate their fields and later on in the life of the city building canals for the same and also for trade, an activity in which they showed great ability, controlling trade routes further afield than Anatolia. The Sumarians are also noted along with their cousins the Babylonians for extensively using cuneiform as a means of communication most often it is though in financial activity. The religion practiced by the Sumarians was polytheistic in the extreme there was a pantheon of "state recognised deities" but each family, trade, city quarter and even individuals also had their own specific gods. In the centre of Ur was situated the great ziggurat dedicated to the moon god Nannar who was patron of the city. (Please see Abraham, Sir Leonard Wooley and The Encyclopedia Britannica)
