The relationship between former United States President, Bill Clinton, and the laboratory community has been controversial at times. But, amidst the debating back and forth between political parties, Bill Clinton has made a positive impact on this community. On specific positive impact that this Man made while he was the president was on November 8, 2000. On this day the safety and Prevention Act was signed into law by President Clinton. This bill was designed to make more specific requirements for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, known as OSHA. This legislation mandated additional requirements for maintaining an injury log and most importantly this bill contributed to the reduction of sharp-related

injuries in the health care setting.

Bill Clinton and his administration brought to the forefront of the Americans the need for safety standards within the laboratory community. Before President Clinton, this was a topic that was examined, and monitored, especially after Aides was a part of our society. However, the monitoring was very minimal. Health care workers safety was not at the top of the priority list. President Clinton was able to bring to the forefront that health care safety in the laboratory and when working with needles is important for several reason. First, it is important for the welfare of the health care workers. Second, by protecting the health care workers, we are protecting the ongoing spread of any type of contagion when working with needles, blood, etc.
