When Guru Gobind Singh wished to create Ideal-men (Khalsa) then he took seven tests
First Test: Moral character is the foundation of religion. Moral character is the basis of success in the world. He invited the Brahmins for a grand feast. He announced : Two types of food shall be served. Those who sit in the row of Non-vegetarians shall be gifted one gold coin and those who sit in the row of vegetarians shall be gifted one silver coin.
When the Brahmins arrived, then almost all of them sat in the row of Non-vegetarians. But those who sat in the row of vegetarians were gifted five gold coins in addition to the silver coin as announced earlier. The true Guru wanted to see how many are true to their faith. Brahmins according to their faith are vegetarians. Their faith is not to kill. The true Guru noted that there are a few only who are true to their accepted faith.
