"Useless, Useless"
Booth was shot through the neck, leaving him paralyzed. By "useless," he was referring to his hands. He died a short time later.
My understanding is that there was some dialogue prior to Booth being shot. He refused to come out and said that he would shoot anyone that tried to take him. I believe that it was his intention to fight to the end. When he was paralyzed he looked and his hands and said; "Useless, useless!"
Although there is a lot of question surrounding what John Wilkes Booth actually said, most people agree that he said "Sic Semper Tyrannis" which in latin means Thus Always to Tyrants. Some witnesses say he added "The South is revenged!" However, due to the excitement of the situation the truth of these reports is questionable.
In Booth's dying moments, he reportedly whispered, "Tell my mother I died for my country". Asking that his hands be raised to his face so he could see them, Booth uttered his last words, "Useless, useless," and died as dawn was breaking.
I.m not sure why you think he left his own country. He was raised in Illinois and died at the hands of John Wilkes Booth at the Forbes theater in Washington D.C. He was the sixteenth president of the United States.
John Wilkes Booth had no tattoo. There are reports that as a ten year-old he tattooed his left hand using India ink. All these sources say their information came from his sister Asia Booth. Asia said, "He had perfectly shaped hands, and across the back of one he clumsily marked, when a little boy, his initials in India ink." Booth simply put his initials on his left hand using India ink from his school supplies. In a few weeks the initials would wear off. Before Lincoln's assassination not one person said he had a tattoo. After his death, people said that Booth had a tattoo on his left hand, his right arm, and on his chest. None of these were accurate. The only person that we know had JWB tattooed on his left hand was James William Boyd.
Who cares. He killed lincoln. Actually... His last words were these: "Tell mother, I died for my country..." Then he asked for his hands to be raised to his face and he muttered, "Useless. Useless..."
John Wilkes Booth never saw the inside of a jail. He was trapped by Union soldiers in a barn near Port Royal Virginia and was shot to death while resisting arrest. His accomplice, David Herold, was captured and spent two months in the Old Capitol prison before he was tried and executed by hanging.
