Johnny's father is abusive and hits him when he comes in the house. His mother is a drunk and screams at him and hits him as well. He was beaten really badly by the socs and received a scar along his right cheek. Later, he is kicked and abused by the socs while another group of socs are drowning ponyboy. Johnny pulls out a knife and kills Bob, Cherry's boyfriend. He saves a bunch of little kids in a church that is burning down, and as a result was burned really badly. He eventually dies, and even if he had survived, he wouldn't have been able to feel anything below the middle of his back.
