Depends which kind of people you refer to.
At the beginning, black people adored him as he gave them hop end inspired them to be good people and fight back with peace, not violence. This remained the view of many black people throughout the entire civil rights campaign. But not all the black people, some people had begun to get fed up with his response of peace saying they were getting nowhere and turned to Malcolm X, just as inspirational but a LOT more violent.
In this day and age the black people ALL love Martin Luther King regardless.
At the beginning the white people thought that he was just an aid exited speaker, but as time got on, they could see he was serious and that he was amassing an army of dedicated followers who'd help him in his peaceful campaign, the white people much preferred Martin Luther King to Malcolm X, as he was too violent for them.
In this day and age, white people ALL love Martin Luther king, regardless.
