People tended to eat what their parents ate, so there was not as much variety in what people cooked.

Whoever wrote this is waaaaaay wrong...100 B.C. is only 2100 years ago. Even the most conservative anthropologist would say cooking was invented 300,000 years ago. That is, unless they deny the existence of the world before Christ!
