The world in our normal experience appears to be very solid. Continents do not appear to be moving. If you do not understand that continental plates float on the magma beneath, it would seem to be ridiculous that anything as large and heavy and solid as a continent could move at all.
Well, there were quite a lot of them. Do you mean a theory related to continental drift or plate tectonics?
The hypothesis that continents 'drift' was first put forward by Abraham Ortelius in 1596.
It was originally because of religious views. They believed that when God created the Earth he created it perfect so the idea of it changing by itself was against their beliefs.
Also his ideas where not generally believed because he was an astronomer and meteorologist. Scientists at the time believed the earth was shrivelled like an old apple.
Well the fact that Europe and America appear to have been linked at one point, and more recently it was calculated that America pulls awas from Europe 1 inch every 4 years I believe by the use of SAT NAV.
People belived the continents were always the same.
there was once a supercontinent and the huge landmass was broken into continents that drifted apart
That the Earth was quite solid.

Most scientists originally reject the theory of continental drift since it did clearly explain continents would move. This is a theory that has been established by Wegener and did not get good support initially.
Because scientists back then didn't want to believe that the earths plates could move or did move, especially on their own.
Alfred Wegener
I believe most scientists would agree that this is not currently known. Some, however, would say that there was no "before" - that time itself started with the Big Bang.
Continental drift.
Before the cell theory it was pre-renaissance. The renaissance was the boom of art and science. So, before the cell theory was religion.
Alfred Wegener did not have the "HOW" factor- because of no evidence on the process, they could not believe his theory.
sikhs do believe in the big bang theory. it was written in the guru granth sahib ji before scientists found out.

Alfred Wegener's continental drift theory has subsequently been honed by scientific discoveries to the more all-inclusive plate tectonic theory which is generally accepted by earth scientists.
yes becouse wenger is not geologist and he could not explain the how continental drift theory
