I don't know what they called themselves, but they we originally referred to as "Anti-Federalists". Later as "Republicans". After that a variety of Republican-Democrats, Jefferson-Democrats, Jeffersonians, etc. Finally, Democrats - a named that has remained.

Thomas Jefferson was a member of three different political parities during his career. The first was the Republican-Democratic party. The second was the Democratic. Then his supporters were found in the Republican party so yes his reporters were called Republicans.

Someone who does not like change may be referred to as being resistant to change or having a fixed mindset. They may prefer stability and predictability over new or different experiences.
