Roger Williams got banned from Massachusetts Bay Colony because of his religious beliefs so when he landed in Rhode Island, he declared his colony for freedom of religion. So, Rhode Island's religion in the 1600's was freedom, any religion that you wanted.
Connecticut had resources in the 1600s which helped settlers. The timber was vast and the logging industry was able to harvest lumber for houses.
The population of Venice during this period is estimated to have been around 150,000-180,000 people. Venice was a major city and maritime power during the Renaissance, attracting people from various regions for trade, art, and culture.
People had left England because they were being persecuted for their beliefs. Living in Rhode Island had given these people the religious freedoms they so desperatly strived for. Living in those times was of course harsh yet the people wouldn't have given it up for anything.

King Charles II Issued a royal charter in 1663 that allowed the colonists of Rhode Island a large measure of self-government. Their governor and many other officials were elected by the colonists and no longer appointed by the king. The charter guaranteed "full liberty in religious concernments" to the colony. Members of religious sects such as Jews and Quakers, who were persecuted in other colonies, were able to enjoy complete freedom of worship in Rhode Island.
