During the 40's, WW2 was still happening. Therefore, it was dangerous to stay outside for long, and if you did go outside, you'd better watch it. Bombs such as the V2 and V1, deadly rockets with extreme precision on cities fired on land captured by Germans in France.

Rationing also meant that their was little food, so you couldn't do anything too forceful such as running as that would have caused too much hunger.

In those days, teenagers would have scavenged, hanged out with friends, role played or joined the army to past the time, though very few considered the last option in the 40's. If they were rich, they could go to private cinemas, though the industry there was pretty dry. Even after WW2, rationing still happened and the Thames froze over too, since it was so cold during one winter. However, many services such as T.V. and Cinema became opened. Towards the end of the 40's, more things such as Board Games started coming out.
