the victory of Saratoga gave the Americans confidence to continue and eventually win the Revolutionary War.

This was an extremely large loss for the British, who were planning a major invasion on Albany. With the victory of America, Britain lost its main advancement.

During the American Revolutionary War, the battles occurring around Saratoga in 1777 had a powerful effect upon the overall conflict and thus the Americans themselves. For one thing, the battles stabilized the northern front of the war for the American cause. For another thing, the battles convinced France to support the Americans, and this support proved decisive in the victory that was ultimately won.

Many historians agree that the Battle of Saratoga fought in northern New York was the turning point of the Revolutionary War. After this battle, the Marquis de Lafayette committed French troops and ships to the patriots. With extra forces the colonists were bolstered and this helped to bring the conflict to an earlier resolution had the French not been so supportive.

The Americans captured an entire British army and its officers. The British general, Burgoyne, was eventually sent back to Britain and his life was pretty much ruined by the loss. More importantly though, the victory convinced the King of France to support the Americans. About a month later the French signed a treaty of alliance with the Americans, and also began working on getting other countries to join their side. Spain and the Dutch Republic joined the American side later.
