∙ 10y agoThe Soviet Union won WW2 for the Allies. If they had not dedicated so many troops to fighting the Germans the Allies would have been totally overrun. Britain would have fallen and US aid would have been far less effective.
The Soviet Union certainly made a huge contribution to defeating Hitler, but so did the joint U.S./U.K. Strategic Air Campaign, and, even more crucial, the Battle of the Atlantic. By opening the sea lanes for cargo and transport, the allies were able to send much needed supplies to the Soviet Union, without which it may not have been able to go on the offensive against the Nazis.
