The Spanish thought that the Inca were barbaric heathens. The idea that people should respect different cultures and learn from them is a very recent concept and the Spaniards of the 1500s viewed every Latin American culture as inferior, backwards, and useless. The only positive about the Inca, in the Spanish perception, was how much gold and silver they had mined.
