Meanwhile their objectives were to ban any new slave-states in the Western territories. This would have meant the South being increasingly out-voted in Congress, which would pass laws hostile to Southern interests.
It was this quarrel that led to the Civil War.
And it was the war - not Abolitionist debate - that led to the end of slavery.

∙ 10y agoThe antebellum anti slavery abolitionists were a group of people located for the most part in the US Northern States that wanted slavery abolished. Their particular area of concern was in the South where up until the time of the US Civil War had approximately 4 million slaves.
