His father died when John Smith was sixteen years old. Soon after that he served as a mercenary for France, fighting against Spain to free Holland. He also fought the Turks and was a prisoner of war, sold as a slave to a Turkish nobleman. After killing his captor he slowly started back to England, becoming involved in the voyage to the New World when he was around twenty-seven. I hope that helped. : )

No. The 2008 Will Smith drama received no Academy Awards nominations.
I would have to say after all the votes and polls that the best reviewed movie would have to be the movie Seven Pounds with Will Smith!
his last movie was i am legendbut the newest one coming out will be Hancock
will smith saves 7 people and does 1 of them
its really kinda confusing. but basically will smith was on his phone will driving with his girl and got in a car crash with a mini van that had 6 people in it and he killed all of them and his girl. then he falls in love with this other girl a long time later but he already had this huuge plan on how he was going to kill himself. this new girl had a bad heart and was waiting for a new one. sooo, will smith killed himself my putting himself in a freezing ice bath with a jelly fish. then he donated 7 of his organs to 7 different people throughout the whole movie and the organs ended up weighing to 7 pounds all together. that's just a quick over view. personally, i think it was a greaaat movie. :)
The reference to 'pounds' in Seven PoundsThe reference is from "Merchant of Venice" by William Shakespeare. A "pound of flesh" is required for penance for wrongdoing. Seven people were killed in the car wreck that he feels he is responsible for, thus he owes seven pounds of flesh. Also, the director, Gabriele Muccino, stated when asked why the movie is named "Seven Pounds" that the weight of the script weighed seven pounds.
Will Smith and Rosario Dawson appeared together in two movies: Men in Black II (2002) and Seven Pounds (2008).
According to Will Smith it is a reference to the William Shakespeare play "The Merchant of Venice" in which one of the characters is required to give a pound of his own flesh to repay a debt. Ben Thomas, the lead character in the movie "Seven Pounds" negligently caused the death of seven people and is trying to repay this debt by rescuing seven people; giving up his own life and wealth in the process. One "pound" for each person.
Seven Pounds is a Columbia Pictures film that was released in 2008. The film stars several well-known actors including Will Smith, Woody Harrelson and Rosario Dawson.
