The Roman lunch (cibus meridianus or prandium) was a quick meal, eaten around noon at the end of the working day and before going to the baths. Dinner (cena) was the main meal. Leftover from the cena were commonly used. If not, it consisted of salted bread, marinated vegetables, had boiled eggs, cheese and salad. Occasionally, if more elaborate, it could include cold meats, (cured ham and salami) fish, salad and fruit. Consuming a large lunch was considered vulgar.
