Most of the public was happy to see Barack Obama elected, since the majority of the country voted for him. Of course, some Republicans who had opposed him were very disappointed that their candidate (John McCain) had lost. And a small segment of the Republican party, including some conservative talk show hosts, was extremely upset and said so. But for the most part, even those who did not vote for him agreed that the election of the first black president was a great moment in American history.
