The spartacists were a group of left wing communists who wanted to overthrow the Weimar Republic and turn Germany into a communist country. They had seen the sucess of the Bolsheviks in Russia and wanted a revolution in Germany. They wanted to set up Soviets workers councils and remove the government. They were strongly anti-government and felt the German worker had been used and people lives wasted by the capitalists and the rich. They wanted to use armed forse to get exactly what they wanrted.
after struggling to fullfill their aim against the weimar republic, they didn't suceed in which Rosa luxemburg and liebnech died.
They inspired the Russian Revolution and their uprising highlighted the instability of the Wiemar Republic
Spartans were Greeks and they lived in the territory that now is the country of Greece. So i don't really understand the meaning of your question.
Because if the spartacists plan had not been ambushed the spartacists would have easily overthrown the government and Germany would have become a soviet, bolsherik, communist run post war country. Exactly what Ebert didn't want, he wanted Germany to become a democracy and the Hohenzollern monarchy to have nearly complete power
There are two different views: 1. The differences between the Spartacists and the Social Democrats were irreconcilable. 2. The right wing of the SPD leadership deliberately provoked a confrontation.
One main group were the Spartacists-the German Communist Party. Being an extremist left wing party, they believed in equality for everyone. Usually, communism wouldn't be a big thing in a country like Germany, but due to the fact that there were many poorer people than before-because of the blockade of German ports-communism seemed like a good idea, as it was in their interests. Of course, this wasn't good news for the richer members of society-who were able to sustain themselves with the help of their wealth. Also, just two years before this uprising, Russia had turned communist. As communism in Russia seemed to be working very well at the time, many Spartacists must have thought that this was a great example to follow. On top of being communist, most members of the Spartacist Party were Jewish and the leader of this party was a woman. Many richer Germans didn't like communists or Jews, so the thought of dealing with them both must either make them feel frustrated or satisfied that nothing will actually happen. Women had no real significance in this period of time, so for a woman to start and organise an up rise, trying to overthrow the current Government and make Germany communist must have been unreal. Rosa Luxemburg and her party tried to overthrow Berlin, but the whole event was very badly organised and they were easily dealt with via the Freikorps. This caused a lot of controversy. Ebert ordered the Freikorps to capture Spartacist members. But instead they murdered Luxemburg and Karl Liebknicht (a co-leader) and illegally disposed of their bodies. Also, Ebert, despite having similar views than those of the Spartacists, he didn't side with them, as he would lose his own power. The Spartacists thought the current state of the country would worsen their already poor lives. They found it unfair that they were possibly working harder and longer than those with inherited wealth or better jobs, but still get paid less. They also thought that the Weimar would even lessen their chances of ever being equal.
Strictly speaking, the 'Spartacus Week' of 5-12 January 1919 predates the formation of the Weimar Republic. It was confined to Berlin and the chances of the Spartacists gaining power were very remote. The most serious threat was the hardline right wing Kapp-Putsch of March 1920, which sent the government fleeing first to Dresden and then to Stuttgart.
This was the name adopted during World Wat 1 by the internationalist, anti-war Left. On 31 December 1918 they formed the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). Together with the USPD (Independent Socialists), they rose in rebellionearly in January 1919 against the mainstream Socialists (SPD). The poorly planned uprising was put down with appalling savagery, culminating in the assassination of Karl Liebknecht and Rosa Luxemburg.

Communists in Germany in 1919 who wanted a revolution in Germany similar to the 1917 revolution in Russia
the spartacists were a group of radical socialists who inspired the russain revolution and their uprising highlighted the instability of the weimar republic.
The leader of the slave revolt in Rome was Spartacus (109 BC - 71 BC).The Marxist revolutionaries named for him were the Spartacists (Spartacus League, 1915-1918).
The spartacist uprising failed because of poor leadership (Rosa luxemburg) and simply because they were fighting the friekorps (freedom corps) who were anti communist veterens of ww1 and current German soldiers of the time.
