In WW2 at least, the women went to work. Women in Britain, Canada and USA went to work in industry, building tanks, guns, ammunition and bombs. They delivered aircraft from factories to air forces, they farmed, they drove ambulances (as my mother did). -Women saved us every bit as much as the men who were fighting.
