The Canadian Sphynx originated in Canada in 1966. It's hairless gene is Recessive. HCM is very prominent in this breed.
The Donskoy (also known as a Russian Sphynx or Don Sphynx) originated in Russia in 1987. The hairless gene in this breed is Dominant. Though any cat breed is susceptible to HCM, the Donskoy is not notoriously known for problems with HCM.
One definite difference between a sphynx cat and a normal cat is the lack of hair on a sphynx cat. The lack of hair makes them warm to touch and good for those who have cat Allergies.
