You turn it counter clockwise with a 1 1/4 six sided socket.
The air filter on a 1997 Cavalier is located next to the battery. You need to remove four screws to open the top rectangular cover. The filter is inside upon opening this plastic cover. You will never miss it because the filter is located before the round air intake plastic corrugated hose (hose is about 3 inches in diameter and connected to the engine air intake) connected to this rectangular air filter cover.
Should be in the center of the oil pan, you will need a very large socket to remove the cover, and the filter is an element-type which just falls out when you take the cover off. The oil filter is horizontal on the rear of the engine block. It is to the right of the middle, so look from the passenger side down, or you could slide under and find it also. I find it easier to take it off by standing to the side and reaching down in.
Open the hood. Look for the air filter assembly on the right just above the battery. Take a 9 mm socket and loosen the two bolts at the outside right edge of the air filter cover. Lift the cover gently and just enough to remove the air filter. Make sure you look at the orientation of the air filter so you can put the new one in the same way. Slip in the new filter. Place the cover snuggly over the filter and tighten the bolts. Total time 10 minutes most of it spent finding the right socket.

The oil filter on the 2006 Saturn Vue 4 cylinder is located in front of the engine compartment. You will need a 1 1/4" socket to remove the cover and the filter (it is attached to the cover). Now, standing at the front of the vue, with the hood open, look just to the left of the battery box and down. You should see the large socket cap. There is a notch in one of the intake hoses for you to get an extension on the socket. Unscrew that cap and remove the old filter. replace with the aftermarket filter CH9018(Fram) or equivilant. Make sure to change oil also, unless you are running extended service synthetic and only changing the filter.
It's in a canister under the engine cover. it requires a socket usually to open those GM canisters. But its up top under the cover shouldn't be hard to find.
It is accessed from under the hood. It is located in the front of the engine next to the power steering fluid reservoir, and it takes a 36mm socket or wrench to remove the oil filter housing cover.
