To name a major one, the South was mainly agricultural, and didn't have industry behind it like the North did. This meant that, while soldiers from the North were provided for (meaning uniforms, weapons, etc.) by the common workers back home, the Southern soldiers had to fend for themselves. Also, the South had a great disadvantage of numbers, having only 11 states while the North had 23. In addition to that, most of the South's population was made up of slaves who were not allowed to fight and were forced to work at home. These are only a few, but I hope they help!
1. Most of the factories manufacturing products during the Civil War were located in the North. Because the North attracted immigrants from Europe, wages there were relatively low and factories could hire multitudes of laborers without as much cost, thereby increasing factory efficiency. (Immigrants were not as attracted towards the South because they could not compete against the slaves who worked for their masters for free.) The slaves in the South worked in the fields, which meant that the Southern economy depended much on agriculture, especially cotton. When war came, the North's economy was much stronger because it could manufacture the millions of weapons needed for war without relying on other sources. The South, which didn't have many factories to begin with, needed to import clothes, food, and weapons from other areas.
2. Between 1861 and 1865, the Union blockaded the Atlantic Coast of the South, preventing the South from trading with other countries. This was part of the Anaconda Plan proposed by General Winfield Scott. The blockade was especially effective at reducing cotton exports, with cotton being the product that drove the South's economy. With a significant reduction in the number of cotton exports, the South's economy faltered.
3. Raising war revenue through taxes was also ineffective for the South. Taxation was thought to be controversial due to states rights issues. Rather than collecting taxes, most states borrowed money or printed currency. The Confederate Treasury also began printing its own currency. This all led to extreme inflation in the South, and the Southern economy became in ruins.
4. The North had a much larger population than the South, which meant more soldiers. In addition, the South initially refused to arm its slaves, which decreased the number of Southern soldiers even more. Outnumbered by a ratio of twenty-one million to seven million, the South simply did not have enough soldiers to win the war. Superiority in numbers was one of the greatest advantages the North had.
the south wasnt as well equipped as the North and didnt have the manufacturing to make things that were needed for the war
There were a multitude of disadvantages that the South had in the US Civil War. The states that seceded had to create a central government from scratch. The South had no navy and had to either build it themselves or have warships built for them in England. Another major disadvantage was the fact that the North had an huge population compared to the South. Thus, the North could build armies from its vast population.
The official start of the Civil War was when the South fired on Fort Sumter NC.
The war was called The Civil War.
Reconstruction was what the period of rebuilding the south was after the civil war.
True. The majority of the Civil War battles were fought in the South.
there not from the north
Most of the manufacturing was in the North.
Smaller population. No industrial manufacturing.
little population north had much more than the south
Two disadvantages in the North during the Civil War was that the North didn't have as good tactics as the South did. Another one is that the South fought on their own land so they knew the land better than the North did. Sources: Learned it in school
supplys.
they didnt have enough money or people to fight the north. in the north they had money people and they had supplies

The south lost the civil war
Because they lost Some examples were that the South relied strongly on slaves to work their plantation and the civil war freed the slaves; they don't have workers to work on plantations anymore. Have to fix a lot of the damage caused by war, etc.
South Yemen Civil War happened in 1986.
A civil war is when 2 factions fight to control the same government. The south wanted their own government so the American 'Civil War' was not a civil war. It was and is the south's view that the north invaded the south, starting a war of aggression.
