Ever been to Jamestown? It's right on a swamp. A lot of mosquitos. Not much clean drinking water. No flush toilets, so you had to be careful where you put the outhouse, or your water supply would get contaminated from THAT. Not much food, and no refrigerators, so food poisoning and diet deficiencies could be a problem. Add in diseases from lice, ticks, lack of cleanliness, lack of medical care, no vaccinations against common disease like measles, mumps, diphtheria, tetanus- not too healthy in general. That was one of the main reasons for moving to Williamsburg- much healthier.

Jamestown did not die. Many people did die though. It was from disease, but also from Native American relations and lack of food.
