The Christian God is widely thought of as a god of love and procreation, but not one who approves of sexual pleasure for its own sake. Scholars say that until around three thousand years ago, Yahweh seems to have been a storm god, after which the Israelites began to see him as the moon god (although of course this is no longer the case). Aphrodite was at times the moon goddess in Greek mythology, although more often Venus.
