Nomadic Indo-European people called the Aryans migrated into northern India in the mid 2nd millennium BCE bringing with them their religious and cultural beliefs. The native darker skinned Dravidians moved to the south of India. The Aryan religion had Indra and Mithra as a couple of its gods and it melded with some Dravidian beliefs to become Hinduism.
