Ammendments are usually done to lawsuits when people want to change them.
For example the following are examples of when to ammend a lawsuit
...if a plaintiff wants to opt out and not sue anymore, they can ammend the lawsuit.
...if a defendant is erased from the lawsuit.
...Change of venue (where the lawsuit is to be tried)
...change of complaint (if the plaintiffs want to increase or decrease the damages or monies being sued for)
I'm sure there are a lot more reasons to ammend a lawsuit, but I hope I gave you the gist of it and can follow from there.
The 11th amendment sets up regulations on law suits by, or against, state governments.
A change to a law or a rule.
In Suits at common law, where the value of controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury shall be otherwise reexamined in any court of the United States, than according to the rules in common law.
Amendment 7 guarantees a jury trial in civil suits where the value exceeds $20. When both parties agree, a judge, rather than a jury, can decide the case.

The Seventh Amendment, but only in Federal cases, not state cases. The Seventh Amendment guarantees the right to a jury trial in all federal suits at common law where the amount at issue exceeds $20. Note that cases involving divorces, injunctions, probate matters and certain others are not considered suits at "common law"; therefore, there is no right to a jury trial in those cases no matter how much money is involved. While the Fourteenth Amendment applied the Bill of Rights (the first ten constitutional amendments) to the states, it has done so in a process of selective incorporation. Most of the amendments have been fully or partially incorporated, but the Seventh Amendment has not. Therefore, litigants are bound by the rules of the jurisdiction in which they file.States are not required to provide a jury trial in civil suits unless a case involves a federally created right.Seventh Amendment"In Suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury shall be otherwise re-examined in any Court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law."
Amendment = We feel like changing the law but can't alter the prexisting constitution. Thus we just add to it.

Amendment means to make certain changes in a bill, law or constitution. But it is famously known for adding, removing & making changes in a constitution.
The 11th Amendment by its plain language bars suits against states by citizens of other states or foreign citizens, but the Supreme Court in Hans v. Louisiana also construed the 11th Amendment to bar suits against states by its own citizens. That immunity can be waived or abrogated by the state itself or by the federal government in limited situations.
