Buddist belive the goal in life is to reach Nirvana, or enternal peace. They also belive in the teachings of SIDARTA GALDAMA (sorry if that's not how you spell his name) AKA, Budda, the enlightned one. Budda teachers that all suffering is caused by selfishness and greed. Buddism is all about letting go of selfishness and greed. How did Budda come up with this?
According to Buddism, Budda was the son of a weathy man. He lived in a great mansion, with walls. He got everything he wanted, and he was a goodd boy. But his father NEVER let him outside the walls of the house, because he didn't want his son to see suffering. Due to Buddas curiosity, eventually he snuck out of the walls. When he did, he saw 3 things. An old sick man, a funeral, and a Hindu preis. He couldn't understand why these people were suffering, and why the Hindu preis let go of all his belonging just to be what he is. So Budda became a Hindu preis on a goal to find out why there was so much suffering. But being a Hindu didn't help him, he still didn't know why there was suffering. So he meditated for supposivly 45 days. When he rose, he said that suffering was caused by selfishness and greed. He spent the rest of his life teaching this, and Buddism was born.
Buddism was started in India, but made it's way to China, and is one of the main religions in Chinna. And yes, Buddist are POLYTHEISTIC, they worship tons of gods and goddessses. Buddist families have shrines in there homes, where they worship.
Today, 6% of the ENTIRE WORLD is Buddist. There are 376 million Buddist people, and it is the 6th most populaur religon.

Buddhists believe that:
* All living entails a measure of pain or unsatisfactoriness * This pain is caused by desire * The ending of pain can be achieved by the ending of desire * The path to this release is the set of guidelines known as the Eightfold Path
Sometimes when I'm asked to describe the Buddhist teachings, I say this:
(1) Everything is connected;
(2) Nothing lasts;
(3) You are not alone.
These first three are really just a restatement of the traditional Three
Marks of Existence: non-self, impermanence, and suffering. The fact that
we all suffer means we are all in the same boat, and that's what allows us
to feel compassion.
(4) Life is full of suffering
(5) Suffering exists because of our desires and aversions.
(6) There is a state of mind in which suffering ends (enlightenment).
(7) There is a path to attain this state; That path is called the Eight Fold Path.
Items 4 - 7 are the Four Noble Truths.
(8) Bodichitta (Loving- Kindness / Compassion) is the first step to
enlightenment (and to solving the world's problems)
(9) The 5 Precepts concisely describe a moral life
The 5 precepts are: (1) not to take the life of anything living, (2) not
to take anything not freely given, (3) to abstain from sexual
misconduct and sensual overindulgence, to (4) refrain from untrue
speech, and (5) to avoid intoxication, that is, losing mindfulness.
(10) Mindfulness of thoughts and actions are the key to wisdom and therefore
to the path of enlightenment.
Buddhists believe in achieving as state called Nirvana, or enlightenment. Once you reach Nirvana you no longer have any desires and are freed from the cycle of rebirth.
Buddhism is primarily a path of understanding and practice, rather than belief. But, loosely speaking, one can say that Buddhists believe in the Four Noble Truths.
