The adult dragon-flies die off with the cold. However - the eggs which those adults laid during mating, lie dormant until the warmer spring weather triggers them to hatch into larvae - and the cycle of life begins again.

Dragonfly adults die when it turns cold, however they only spend a few weeks flying around as adults, most of their life is spent in the nymph form which livs in still fresh water. The adults mate and lay their eggs in water and these hatch to produce dragonfly nymphs which may stay in the water for as long as 5 years (overwintering under any ice) before crawling out and hatching as adults in the summer months.
