Christians is a very broad term encompassing many religions, which include Catholics, yes, they are Christians too. So whatever Catholics don't do, it's reasonable to assume that some variety of Christian would do it.

The protestant reformation took place in the 1600s all across Europe. the issues which caused the protestants to leave the catholic church were substantial. Protestants claim there is no biblical reason to pray to mary, St. Thomas, St. Peter or any other saints, but only through Jesus. Protestants urged the Catholic laity to study their Bible, and not to follow vein traditions, like paying money to the church to get your loved ones out of purgatory- a mythical place where catholic leaders claim luke-warm believers go after they die- a place inbetween heaven and hell. these are couple of many differences. But, in short, catholics hold to church tradition and ceremony, which are principles supposedly gleamed out of scripture, while protestants believe "sola scriptura" (by The Bible alone).
