Best Answer

Plants usually do not offer a useful source of food for fish, but rather a place to hide and feel safe. Another large benefit to fish is a plants ability to absorb nitrates, phosphates, potassium, carbon dioxide and expel oxygen in the water supply. This makes water able to sustain larger loads of aquatic life by helping to complete a full cycle.
