Forests (and all growing vegetation) removes carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere, releases the oxygen and stores the carbon in its roots, trunk and branches. Forests are a great carbon sink saving the world from global warming. If only we hadn't cut down so many of them!

Forests remove carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere through the process of photosynthesis, helping to mitigate climate change. They also remove other air pollutants such as nitrogen dioxide and ozone. Additionally, forests release oxygen (O2) into the atmosphere, providing essential breathable air for humans and wildlife.

Does cutting down forests limit the amount of carbon that is removed from the atmosphere?

Yes, cutting down forests (deforestation) means the trees can no longer remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. To combat this we have to replant the forests (reforestation) to reduce levels of greenhouse gases.

Why is the Earth getting warmer every day?

Greenhouse gases in the atmosphere capture heat. We are continuing to add extra greenhouse gases (by burning fossil fuels) and this is causing the warming. The great forests that used to remove carbon dioxide (one of the greenhouse gases) from the atmosphere have been destroyed.

How do forests affect the temperature?

Forests (and all vegetation) remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. This reduces the effects of the enhanced greenhouse effect, slowing the rising temperatures of global warming.

How can the atmosphere be cleaned?

Trees and other growing vegetation are the only things that seriously remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Unfortunately, the world is still cutting down its great forests.

Process by which carbon circulatesaroundthe earth as plants remove carbon from the atmosphere and animals add carbon to the atmosphere?

Carbon Cycle.

carboncycle

Which process could decrease carbon in the atmosphere?

The carbon cycle removes carbon from the atmosphere, but only temporarily.Photosynthesis, when plants grow, is the only way to permanently remove carbon from the atmosphere. So we need to plant more forests.

The carbon cycle

Why is Forest important?

Forests are important because they remove Carbon Dioxide (CO2) (a greenhouse gas causing global warming) from the atmosphere as part of the carbon cycle. Forests will also remove the carbon dioxide from our burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) if there are enough forests. Unfortunately, we are still cutting them down!

Why are forests good for the environment?

Forests remove carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, from the atmosphere through photosynthesis. This reduces the threat of a accelerated greenhouse effect. In the forest the trees also gives us oxygen and they are good for your health.

How can global warming remove carbon from the atmosphere?

It can't. Global warming is caused by the increasing amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere and there is no way the extra heat will remove this CO2. The only thing that removes carbon permanently from the air is photosynthesis in forests, trees and other vegetation.

What is the most carbon-neutral country in the world?

The tiny Himalayan country of Bhutan. Its forests remove more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere than its people emit.
