  • Weapon (of course)
  • Magazines or linked ammunition (depending on what weapon you carried)
  • Grenades
  • Webbing - this includes suspenders or a vest, two canteens and covers, compass, first aid field dressings, pistol belt.
  • Secondary weapons - this would usually be a bayonet for riflemen, and an M9 pistol for machine gunners (although this could vary between units).
  • Rucksack, which would loaded according to the mission. Radiotelephone operators would carry a radio and extra batteries, assistant machine gunner would carry the tripod, spare barrel, and ammunition. Typically, for the field, you'd carry your sleeping bag, extra uniforms, hygiene items, food (MREs), rain gear, cold weather gear (if applicable), you might carry extra boots.
  • Assault pack - can be clipped to the rucksack, and detached as needed. Great for carrying pyro, radios when the rucksack would be too heavy for the mission, etc.
  • Camel-Bak hydration bladder.
  • Protective gear - body armour and helmet.
  • Chemical protective equipment - protective mask, chemical suit, antropine injectors (on real world operations).

Additionally, some non-issue items were often carried:

  • Combat knife
  • Gerber/Leatherman/Friskars/etc. multi-tool
  • Flashlight.. the Mini Mag Lite was a popular substitute for the GI flashlight.
  • Other items as deemed necessary.
