They would may eat humans if you get too close or their own feeces.
Yes, they are from the same family, but i dont know if Red Belly Pacus can be kept with Black Belly Piranhas. Red belly Pacus can be kept with Red belly piranhas.
No. This relative of the piranha is not endangered.
Red belly pacus are the same thing as a black pacu and it all depends on how your pacus act.
Yes, until one male kills the other or the pacus eat them both.
Pacus are one of the Amazonian Characins ( Caracidae) they are related to the well known Pirahna. They do grow very large and an adult can weigh in at well over 60Lbs.
Male Pacus tend to have a more obvious red belly than females. Some also say the males gave a more "pointed" dorsal fin, but I have a male and female and their dorsal fins don't seem to look any different. Hope that helps!
The Pacus are vegetarian and pretty harmless but they get very very large weighing in at around 30 Kgs (70lbs approx) when fully grown. Oscars are tiny by comparison. When fully grown they are only about 1.5 Kgs (4 lbs approx). Minimum sized tank for a couple of Oscas is about 72" x 18" x 18 ". You would need a very large tank maybe 10 x the size the Oscars need. Something that holds several thousand gallons of water to keep Pacus successfully.
Many species are called Pacus but they mainly come from the same area and inhabit similar conditions so I would say yes but only if your aquarium is over 8 to 10 feet long x 2 feet High and 2 feet Wide. It would need to be set up with large power filters and low pH water. Pacus get over 3 feet long and commonly weigh in at over 60lbs.
both pacu and piranha eat live meat and they both can have red bellies too. the real difference is between their jaws, nose and teeth. piranha has a produting lower jaw while pacu has a round mouth. pacu's nose is button shaped but piranha's nose is unmistakable. and piranhas have much larger teeth than pacus.
