The internet can be a useful tool for information but sometimes there is adult information on their that kids should not see. It would be wise to put some parental controls on your computer to help monitor your child's internet activity.

Make sure parents know to lock doors, know safety procedures, have kids memorize their phone numbers, etc. Having a safe family begins with knowing the procedures!

If the parents don't know where their kids are, they will be worried that something has happened, whether it's kidnapping or maybe he/she got drunk and can't find his/her way home. Kids should tell their parents where they're going to make sure that they know and won't get all worried. Plus, if something actually happens, having the parents know where they are could actually be a smart action.
