Bernadette is special because God chose her to receive 18 visits from the Blessed Virgin Mary. When she later became a nun, she remained failthful to her calling even when taunted and abused by her superiors and fellow sisters. Even when she was suffering tremendously from a form of tuberculosis, she never complained and none of the other sister knew how sick she was until shortly before she died.
