People who live near to or on the North Pole are called Inuits, because that is the name of the language they speak. It was only recently the name for these people changed, and it was brought upon because eskimo in Inuit means 'Eater of Flesh' Which the Inuit population took offence to.

There are no permanent inhabitants of the geographic North Pole, which is located in the ice-covered Arctic Ocean. The closest populated areas are the Inuit settlements of Nunavut, Canada, which includes the hamlets of Resolute and Grise Fiord on Ellesmere Island.
The Danish military also maintains a permanent base at Station Nord in NE Greenland.

The mythical North Pole (Santa's Workshop) is inhabited by Santa Claus and his wife, various companions (in European folklore), and a large number of toymaking elves.
