Domestic rats are much like other animals - when they are younger, they play more. Typically younger rats play with their companions. This is a great way for them to learn how hard they bite and how hard to play with others without harming them.
Adult rats can have a variety of toys - including things you find at home. A toilet paper tube with the ends crimped in and food stuffed inside is a great toy! Paper towel scraps make a great material for a rat to move around and build a nest with.
Store-bought toys can include wood chews, plastic toys (avoid toys with bells or other movable parts that a rat might try to open just to eat the insides), and metal hanging toys. Be sure to check out the bird, rabbit, and lizard sections of the store for inspiration, too!

I don't have rats myself, but all of my old friends do. I'd say that if you give them enough attention and play with them, they could still have toys. Toys can be simple, like a paper towel roll or a block of wood. Rats like to chew and nibble so anything simple that lets them chew is fine.

A fun toy for your ratties is take a toliet paper tube, put treats in it, and your rats will enjoy. This isn't a toy but if you get a friend for your rat it will be entertained even when you can't play with them. Rats are easily entertained so even a paper towel will give them lots of fun.

Well for three rats there should be three levels I don't know the length or width but there should be a lot of space and that is because as they get bigger they need more room. My friend has rats and she had hers made I don't where but it is great it has three levels and she has four rats but the bottom level is close to the bottom of the cage and so it is a hiddy sort of place and she has so many toys you can't see the rats. If you get a cage get one with levels.
Are rats thieves?
Female rats are obsessive with collecting fancy bedding to pad their nests, and have been known to steal or destroy towels, clothes, pillow stuffing, curtains, blankets and entire rolls of toilet paper to add to their nests. Two of my rats once worked together and stole and destroyed an entire tablecloth from my dining room table in a single night to create a very big family nest, and some rats even boldly steal clumps of fur from shedding dogs while they sleep. Rats are also very resourceful in finding food, and will steal much more of it than they can eat at a time to prevent the risk of returning several times a day to eat and being caught by you. Sometimes rats also steal belongings, such as toys, from one another if they are jealous or bored of their own toys and attempt to hide them so they can't be stolen back. Rats have also been known to steal marijuana, medicine, corsages, condoms, potpourri and other things which have a strong attractive smell.

I have two Dumbo Dwarf rats, and I LOVE them!! Rats a an amazing addition to ANY home! I often refer to rats as tiny rodent dogs!! My rats are sweet little babies who love giving me kisses! My rats have never bitten me, which is something I'm very happy about. And trust me, I have made them pretty annoyed with me at times. If you are considering getting rats as pets you should first know a few things. Tanks are a NO, tanks will kill your rats due to no ventilation and ammonia build up(which is a deadly chemical in rat pee if there is no proper ventilation). Proper rat cages can rage from 40-250 dollars, but in the end are worth it because you have a happy and healthy rat. Rats need lots of room and toys to play with, such as foraging toys, hammocks, ropes and rope bridges, and places to sleep. They also need healthy food and such. Don't feed your rats avacados or chocolate because it is toxic to them, but any- thing else they can eat. Also clothe, stuffed toys,and lots of other things if they need to.
How dirty are rats?
They're about as dirty as the average dog. If you clean your rats cage, house, toys, etc, every week, feed them a good diet & groom them, they can be very clean indeed. Rats spend a lot of time grooming themselves, & are actually cleaner than cats.
