How does acid rain form? The burning of coal that contains a lot of sulfur produces sulfur oxides, substances composed of oxygen and sulfur. Acid rain forms when nitrogen oxides and Sulfur oxides combine with water in the air to form nitric acid & sulfuric acid.(Acid rain also another way of saying Nitric acid & Sulfuric acid)
Sulfur oxides combine with water to produce sulfuric acid but not nitro acids. Nitro acids are a product of nitrogen oxides reacting with water.
Sulfur oxides from the combustion of sulfur containing fuels for atmospheric sulfurous and sulfuric acid. Nitrogen oxides form nitrous and nitric acids.
Acid Rain
They combine in the air to form acid precipitation
Acid rain forms when nitrogen oxides and sulfur oxides combine with water in the air to form nitric acid and sulfuric acid.

Sulfuric and nitric acids.
These two elements combine together with atmospheric water particles to make Photochemical Smog and "London" smog. When the water particles get much denser this forms with the NO and SO so create dilute sulfurous, sulfur and nitric acids which falls as rain resulting in acid rain.
Nitrogen oxides and sulfur oxides released into the atmosphere form sulfuric and nitric acid when they come in contact with moisture,
Acid Rain
Acid rain primarily contains sulfuric acid or nitric acid, which are formed when sulfur dioxide (SO2) or nitrogen oxides (NOx) combine with moisture in the atmosphere. These pollutants are released into the air from burning fossil fuels, industrial processes, and vehicle emissions. Acid rain can have harmful effects on the environment, including damaging forests, lakes, and buildings.
Sulfur oxides are the oxides of sulfur with oxygen in -2 oxidation state. There are two main oxides of sulfur. They are sulfur dioxide (SO2) and sulfur trioxide (SO3).
They combine in the air to form acid precipitation
Acid rain is formed when moisture in the atmosphere combines with nitrogen oxides and sulfur oxides to make nitric acid and sulfuric acid respectively.
