I have a 1990 Buick with 1991 registration; so this might help: The fuel filter is located along the fuel line toward the rear of the car on the drivers side. Drive the cars rear tires up on a pair of stands, and crawl under on the drivers side. This filter is a small canister with special clipper type of connectors. The connectors work kind of like electrical connectors in that you have to compress the plastic locking part to allow the fuel line to pull out. I took a picture of these connectors and took it to my parts store. I was given a small compressor type of tool that was cheep, and it didnt work. I ended up using a pair of pliers to compress the plastic locking tap while pulling on the line. The replacement filter is a canister with one side equipped with a short fuel line with one of these connectors. Along with the filter, you might buy another short fuel line with these connectors for the other end of the filter.

The 3800 engine (fuel injected) has a pressure feed to the fuel rail (smaller line) and a return from the pressure relief valve (larger line). All fuel lines use the O-ring fuel connectors.
after extensive research on my Kia Sportage......I was told that there is NO emergency cut off switch on the 2001 Kia Sportage. It runs off of the fuel pump relay in the engine compartment fuse box. Two ways you can shut off the engine; find the gas pump fuse and remove it, if there is none, just locate the fuel line under the car , strangle the line before completely disconnect it to avoid fire
