What does the flower on new moon's cover mean?

Twilight- The apple is the forbidden fruit. Bella and Edward's love for each other is forbidden.

New Moon-If you look closely on the cover u see a petal falling off the flower. Bella represents the flower, while Edward represents the petal falling off. In the book, Edward leaves Bella for a period of time. Like a petal falling of the flower.

Also a New moon is the darkest of all moons for Earth. During the period Edward is gone, it's the darkest time in Bellas life. Like a new moon

Eclipse- The ribbon is breaking representing that Bella is getting away from all the vampires that want to hurt her. Also in the book she has to choose between Edward and Jacob. The decision is kind of ripping her apart, like a ribbon

Breaking Dawn- The pawn in the back represents Bella's life as a human. Weak, defenseless. A pawn is the weakest piece. Then there is the queen. Representing Bella's new life as a vampire. Strong, protective, powerful. A queen is the the strongest and most powerful of all chest pieces.

I think it means that Bella has been torn away from Edward so her life is falling apart (the flower tilting down with it falling apart)and that she is being drained lifeless as time goes on(the blood all at the bottom of the flower)

Also 'New Moon' means the darkest part of the lunar cycle. This could represent that this is the darkest part or Bella's life as she is really sad from when Edward leaves her.

and also, don't know whether this helps, but personally I think it has something to do with Bella's birthday party at the Cullen house. Y'know with all the flowers. and when Edward smashes her into the table with the bowls of white flowers, her blood gets on them. Hence, the red and white.

My personal opinion of the cover is: New Moon is centered around the dark night for Bella, left alone in the woods by Edward. He left her heart bleeding and falling apart (like the flower). Sam Uley found her in the woods that night in the pitch black. Some part of Bella that noted that the sky was dark, with no moon to help her out of the woods. Like no one was there to help her out of the deep depression she was in. But when she met Jacob, he lit up her world, giving her a purpose in life. Jacob didn't make everything better, but he stitched up some of the hole in her heart. The flower is thriving again, but not growing anymore, just like Bella's heart.

Taken from Stephenie Meyer's official website: Breaking Dawn's cover is a metaphor for Bella's progression throughout the entire saga. She began as the weakest (at least physically, when compared to vampires and werewolves) player on the board: the pawn. She ended as the strongest: the queen. In the end, it's Bella that brings about the win for the Cullens.

The larger piece is a queen, who can move in all directions and be the most powerful. The pawn, on the other hand, is only there to help, and could get killed (like a soldier loving its side and helping at all cost) at any time for the thing/team/person it is working for. I see the pawn representing Jacob, he is fighting to save Bella from the rest. While the queen is representing Bella, making her own decisions, therefore being the queen and Jacob staying there through what she is going to go through(not spoiling it for anyone out there that hasn't finished) and being her "servant" I guess you could say.

Personally I think that the cover means Bella as a Mortal and then Bella becoming an Immortal. Because Bella, as a Mortal, she was weak and vulnerable just like the pawn in the game of Chess. I also think that Bella was always blushing as a human, hence the red pawn, it represents the blood running through her body, and when she becomes a vampire her blood is gone and she becomes pale white just like the queen.

As far as I can tell, it's a portrayal of Bella. Since the book revolves mainly around her. I think that the pawn shows her as her human self: weak, vulnerable, and not as able as other pieces in the sence that the pawn has a very limited range of motion. On the other hand, the queen is the most powerful piece, with the least limited range of motion of any chess piece. I think that this represents Bella as a vampire, since she is so strong. And the color seems to back this point up. Bella was always blushing as a human, hence the red pawn, it represents the blood running through her...then, when she becomes a vampire the blood is gone and she becomes as pale as the other vampires, hence the white queen.

I agree. I also think to win the fight that was going to happen, you have to have a smart plan to win, just like chess.

I would just like to point out something in every book : in every book, there has been a battle. In TWILIGHT : Bella is attacked by James. In NEW MOON : Jasper tries to attack Bella, which leaves Edward miserable. The next day he leaves and Bella is empty inside. Months later Bella does stupid things to hear a voice in her head, and Edward thinks she's dead. Edward goes to the Volturi and asks to die. Bella and Alice race to stop him. (sorry, that was long). In ECLIPSE : Victoria is back for revenge and ends up getting her head ripped or by Edward. And when the newborn army is dead, the Volturi decide it's time for a visit. ( to Bella and the army). In BREAKING DAWN : when Bella, Jacob, and Renesmee are hunting one day, Bella sees Irina in the clearing. Irina sees an 'immortal' child and runs of to tell the volturi. the volturi come, seeking to destroy the immortal child (and possibly the Cullen family). If you've read the book, you know how it ends. But if you haven't, I'm not telling!

I think the chess game represents the battle with the Volturi. Chess is a game based on logic and the mind. During and after the time that Bella was mortal, no one could get into her mind. She is safe there. Most of the Volturi cannot hurt her or her family, once Bella extends her shield. The majority of the Volturi guard's powers are left useless, afraid to attack in front of the 'witnesses'. Bella is put on top, and becomes one of the most powerful in the clearing, explaining why she is shown as the queen piece. But as for the pawn, it stands for the blood and the determination she gave to be where she is now, an immortal. Breaking Dawn's cover shows how she changed, and how remarkable she really is, no matter what she thinks.

New Moon, those usually represent darkness/mystery, and a new beginning. As well it could, I say COULD tie into the shifters, being 'werewolves' when werewolves are tied with the moon. I would say that new moon could be a clever way of saying 'these wolves are not like the ones you have seen' as in utterly demolishing the ties to the lunar cycle. BUUUT that would be saying that Meyer is smart and analytical and did a LOT of research, as well as making it a bit more subtle way of introducing the subconscious of of heads that 'there be wolves' in this novel. I would say it WOULD have been subtle if she did not beat out heads of it in not only in Twilight, but also New Moon its self. The flower dripping its petals can be tainting the pure. Since it is a white flower but is almost bleeding. But as NONE of this happens it is just there for 'pretty' value. Bella in NO way looses innocence and any argument about Edward leaving her is her lost innocence, it does not work that way since he shacks up with her right at the end and NO GROUND IS MADE.
