What do the symbols in the game senet mean?

In the game there are 5 "special spaces" on the board:

-the ankh (representing the House of Rebirth)

-the bird (also can be represented as a circle under a vertical line, which is perpendicularly intersected with 2 short lines, shown 3 times) (representing the House of Happiness)

-the 3 zig zag lines on top of each other (representing the House of Water)

-the 3 dots in the shape of a triangle (representing the House of the Three Truths)

-the Egyptian Eye (representing the House of Re-Atoum).

The ankh, the three dots, and the Egyptian Eye are all safe squares, meaning that your opponent cannot land there and switch places with you.

The three zig zag lines means that you must move your pawn back to the ankh.

The bird is another safe square, but in this case, you must stop your pawn there, no matter how many spaces you rolled. After you have stopped, that pawn can continue on the next roll.
