The timing marks on a 1969 Ford 360 should line up between the timing chain and the cam sprocket. This sets the initial timing which can later be adjusted using a timing light.
The timing marks should be on the balancer and the timing cover. If they are not there, someone removed the window marks. The timing marks should be on the balancer and the timing cover. If they are not there, someone removed the window marks.

There are different kinds of Xbox's.
The timing marks are at the front passanger side of the engine on the timing chain cover. It helps to mark the line on the balancer with chalk or white paint to make it more visable. To ease reaching the timing marks you can use Spak plug #6 on Pontiac V8s it is 360 deg opposite of #1 and will give you the correct timing. (Each cylinder only fires every 720 degrees of crankshaft rotation, so the timing light only shows every other time the mark on the balancer goes past). Pontiac used a removable sheet metal timing tab after about 1976 or so. They are sometimes missing if the engine has been disassembled. They are available from the aftermarket. Base timing is set to 0 deg with a scan tool. You can not do this with a timing light.
