They call people who question the Catholic Church a lot of things: lapsed Catholics, cafeteria Catholics, Protestants, heretics, U.S. representatives and senators. But I think that all of those are just names, what you need to call them are brothers and sisters who need to hear the Good News, you need to call them people who need the love of God shown to them, and you need to pray for them - daily!
A: First, as a Catholic, I take issue with the term "Roman Catholicism" or "Roman Catholic." That term did not come into existence until the Protestant Reformation. The term was created by Protestants to describe The Catholic Church. Earliest use of the term was the 16th Century. The Catholic Church Herself does not accept this "qualifier."Example 1: The Catechism of The Catholic Church is not titled: The Catechism of The Roman Catholic Church. There's a reason for that -- such a title would be theologically inaccurate and misleading.Example 2: when referring to The Orthodox Church, we do not call Her The Russian Church or The Greek Church. To do so is inaccurate and dismissive/insulting because The Orthodox Church does not describe Herself by such "qualifiers."Technically, there is no such thing as "the Roman Catholic Church."Second: therefore, the answer to your question is: The Catholic Church "rose" -- came into actual/official existence -- at Pentecost.
Roman Catholic AnswerSpeak to any priest, or call the local Catholic Church and tell the office that you are interested in the Church. They will put you in contact with the appropriate people.
A good Catholic.
There is only one Catholic Church. There are no divisions. There are some non-Catholic denominations who call themselves Catholic but who are not Catholic, they are Protestant. If the church is not united under the pope in Rome, it is not a Catholic Church.
Let me begin by stating I can't believe someone can ask this question with a straight face. Catholic Churches do NOT control people's lives, people control their own lives. However what Catholic Churches will do is tell people what it means to be Catholic, and how to live as a Catholic. If people do not like this, no one points a gun to their head and tells them they have to stay. People are free at any time to leave the Catholic Church and pursue a Church where they can believe what they wish. The Catholic Church can only teach and hand on what God has revealed. The Catholic Church cannot simply change itself to suit the times, because the Catholic Church does not belong to this world. The Catholic Church belongs to God, and therefore must value what God values in her teachings, worship, devotion, and life. The reality is that people are not free to call themselves something, then turn around and define for themselves what that means. Thus, no one is free to say "I am Catholic" then turn around and define for themselves what that means. Being Catholic MEANS something. It is not simply a name, and not simply one Christian sect among others. The Catholic Church welcomes ALL who want to live a life guided by the Holy Spirit and be in union with the See of Pete. For those who are not interested in this, the question must be asked "Why be Catholic? Why are YOU Catholic? Why belong to an organization you don't support, believe in, or agree with?"

.Roman Catholic AnswerMost of the people who protested against the Church in the sixteenth century were heretics and apostates. Today they are, more politically correct, known as "protestant reformers" by those who followed them.
I presume you are talking about the 'Roman Catholic Church' made up of congregations entirely in union with the pope. There are thousands of Catholic parishes in California. There are a number of churches that call themselves Catholic but that are not - The American Catholic Church, The American Charismatic Catholic Church, for example, which do not recognize the pope as the leader of the Church.
None. The Catholic church is a Christian church. It is correct to call the Catholic Church a Christian church, because all churches that call Christ their deity are in fact Christian. However, not all Christians are Catholic, though all Catholics are Christian. There are many Christian sects that many people refer to as "Christian" when the proper term would be "Protestant." Catholics and Protestants are Christian. Therefore, while Lutherans, Baptists, Methodists, Presbyterians, etc, are correctly identified as Christian, they are not Catholic.
